Wiz Khalifa’s Running Era Has the Internet Tracking Every Mile

Wiz Khalifa has spent years being one of the most recognizable faces of cannabis culture. Now, unexpectedly, he’s becoming one of the internet’s favorite new runners.

The rapper revealed in late July that he had recently taken up running, casually mentioning that he knocked out a three-mile run followed by five miles the next day while on vacation. What might have been another celebrity fitness update quickly caught the attention of the running world, with Nike and Strava among the brands responding to his newfound hobby.

Since then, people have become surprisingly invested.

Wiz has continued sharing his runs online, including footage of his workouts, and fans have started paying attention to the details. Distance, pace, progress and even the possibility of finding his Strava account have become part of the conversation. A recent running podcast went as far as dedicating part of an episode to why “Wiz Khalifa is good for the sport.”

The crossover makes sense. Wiz has maintained a serious fitness routine for years, but running introduces something much more accessible to the lifestyle he represents. You don’t need a private gym or celebrity trainer. You need shoes, somewhere to run and enough motivation to get out the door.

And naturally, cannabis culture has followed him there. Online discussions immediately filled with fellow smokers identifying with the unlikely combination, while a recent cannabis-focused run event in Illinois even secured sponsorship from Khalifa Kush after organizers reportedly connected with Wiz’s team.

It’s an interesting shift in what modern stoner culture can look like. The old stereotype says getting high means melting into the couch with snacks. Wiz is making a pretty convincing case that it can also mean putting on running shoes and logging a few miles.

At this rate, the internet isn’t just watching Wiz Khalifa run.
